Know your meat

"downed" animals -- those too sick or injured to stand and walk on their own -- were proddedwith electric shocks, dragged with chains, rammed withforklifts, and subjected to other egregious abuse in efforts toforcibly move them to slaughter. Downed animals may also be left to languish without food, water, or veterinary care, and theyare at a higher risk of carrying harmful diseases.

...How could you?

People in the south call themselves animal lovers. Here are some examples of these animal lovers.

-My neighbour leaves his three little chihuhua's outside in the 100 degree weather/freezing cold/rain for ten hours at a time.
-A woman here will take her cat to the vet and yet not clean out the dark black gunk covering the entire inside of it's ear.
-A woman lets her small dogs inside the house and leaves two larger dogs outside to live in cages and never come inside to get love. This is their lives.
-An "animal lover" wants to kill the roaming pit bull who just had puppies and has gotten into her garbage. The dog is homeless and starving and for that it should die.
-Others used to leave one of their dogs completely locked off from the rest of their house and yet let the one dog get all the love and attention in the world.
-A woman made a comment about how her husband basically scared and smacked the shit out of a dog so that it would behave in their home. It was their sisters dog.

Because of where I work, which is not in a good part of town I see homeless dogs running on the sidewalk all too often. It breaks my heart. Do I bring them to the Humane Society so that they are killed in under two days? Every day driving to work I pray I don't see any dogs. It's so bad here.

The people mentioned above are all people I know and like on most levels except for this one. I think it's a combination of not being brought up right, ignorance, basically just not knowing any better.

I don't know what to do and I don't know what to say to them.

I get really worked up about animals.

My heart beats faster, my breath gets short, I feel like I'm high. It's usually due to really ignorant comments about animal cruelty.

I saw the eyes of injustice rolling by. Big glassy orbs, Sweet, innocent, confused. They made me question this big world. In this moment if I were to die, those eyes would be my last vision and judgment of this earth. My final conclusion. I have wept for these souls and prayed to the heavens for a painless death. Slaves to those that run and ruin the only life they know. There are no free cows left in existence. And none are happy.
